The Northern members of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland gathered on Sunday the 20th June at the Peter Thompson Hall, Castlerock, for their annual walk and picnic. This year it was decided to do something different and incorporate a treasure hunt into the proceedings. Members were requested to pay five pounds per team with all proceeds being donated to Dogs Trust.
Conditions were prefect for the dogs with the sun shining and light sea breeze. The first team set off at 2pm with the remainder of the teams following in hot pursuit! Eventually people caught up with one another, stopping to chat and swap ideas and answers. No doubt but there was definitely some cheating going on, which, on this occasion, certainly added to the fun!!! The treasure hunt clues took us through the town, around by the golf course and down onto the beach where the dogs were able to cool off in the water before heading up the hill and into the countryside and eventually returning to the starting point.
As the sheets were collected and scored, each dog was given a bag of treats whilst their hungry owners tucked into their picnic and shared their answers to the clues and kicked themselves for those they could not solve!
Everyone who attended had a thoroughly enjoyable day and it was especially nice to see some new faces amongst us.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank A1 Boarding Kennels for donating a grooming voucher towards our ballot and also Jolley’s Pet Store who donated extra food treats and toys to the Dogs Trust. Without their help and generosity and of course the support of all present, this event would not have been as successful. One cannot forget Peter and Jacqui Embleton who drove the route each morning, working out the clues and organising and coordinating the event. Thank you to one and all!
